Bacombe Hill

About this nature reserve
Bacombe Hill is a precious fragment of chalk grassland, scrub and woodland. Located east of Coombe Hill and the last chalk hill before the Wendover Gap, this site has a commanding position on the Chilterns escarpment. The site is noted for its orchids and butterflies such as the pyramidal, chalk fragrant- and bee orchids and the chalkhill blue butterfly. Long ago this site held importance for Bronze Age settlers with traces of two barrows and numerous other archaeological features still visible.
